On March 6, the City of Boerne is inviting everyone to attend the 100th anniversary of the dedication of the Graham Monument in Veterans Park. It is one of four original park sites established in the early days of the community. At the end of World War I, local leaders decided to erect a monument to memorialize the young Kendall County men who had made the ultimate sacrifice for their country in the “War to End All Wars,” and on March 6, 1923, an estimated 2,000 gathered in the park for the unveiling of the stone. Eugene Goldbeck, then considered the “unofficial photographer of America’s military,” created an amazing panoramic photograph commemorating the day. Exactly one century later, to the day, the City will recreate this iconic photograph prior to the ceremony, and asks that anyone interested in participating try to arrive at Veterans Park around 9:30 a.m. that morning.
