During this trying time, Boerne is continuing to adapt and shine while keeping everyone safe! We are elated to see that our local Boerne businesses and organizations have stepped up their game when it comes to creating a memorable Boerne experience that you can have right in your very own home! Here are several ways you can still get a unique Boerne experience while staying home!
The Cibolo Nature Center is very active on their Facebook page. They are now offering video programs! Check out their chicken coop, critters, trails and more—a virtual tour of the grounds is also on its way! You can still learn about planting and gardening, wildlife and more. Take a gander at the CNC’s YouTube channel where you can find even more content surrounding this awesome Boerne attraction!
Hill Country Council for the Arts
The Hill Country Council for the Arts and Boerne Parks and Recreation Department have created and posted a City of Boerne coloring book completely free of charge! Simply download the PDF from their website and print the pages you or your kiddos want to color to get started. Once you’re all finished, submit your coloring pages to be entered to win their coloring contest! For now, you can simply upload your image on the HCCArts website by the second Tuesday of each month where the pages will be judged by the HCCArts team. Winners will be presented with their prizes and have their picture in the paper at the end of the month. If you win, you’re still eligible to enter each month, so keep coloring away!
Make-and-Take Kits
Curbside pick-up make-and-take kits are becoming all the rage. If you’re a local, this is a perfect opportunity to bring home some goodies and support local businesses. Maker’s Place and Gina Marie’s Art Studio are both offering art kits to take home to your kiddos! Most of the kits can also be paired with a video tutorial that can easily be found on each business’s Facebook page. You can also find additional videos that have ideas on crafts and art projects you can do at home with supplies you might already have. Next, Bumdoodlers is offering cupcake-making kits for the baker in you! Some of the best memories are made in the kitchen. Also, Crazy Plant Love with Boerne’s Handmade on Main is offering Fairy Garden and Terrarium kits to take home! Check out her Facebook page as well, and let your little ones explore their own “green thumb” as they learn a little bit about plants and gardening right there at home. As long as social distancing and quarantine last, these kits will be available until business gets back to normal!
Catch up with the Patrick Heath Public Library Children’s Corner on their Facebook page! They are staying active on social media with crafts, story-time, classes, and workshops all via Facebook Live!
Virtual Handmade Market
From April 8th-25th, Boerne Handmade Market is offering a Virtual BHM! Join the group on Facebook to see market items from all the makers that were scheduled to appear at the Spring 2020 event. Every few hours, a maker will be taking over to showcase their items. Feel free to comment, interact, and purchase any products that catch your eye. What a great way to support handmade makers! Also, mark your calendar for the Fall Boerne Handmade Market this November 20-21, 2020.
Art al Fresco is now offering a virtual tour of its sculptures all around Boerne! Download a map of all the available sculptures here around town and match them with the sculptures you find in the video. Even more fun—download the Otocast app on your smartphone for an audio tour. Personalize your at-home experience when you listen to each artist as they discuss their own art pieces!
There are so many opportunities for you to connect with your favorite Boerne attractions while staying safe and staying home. However, rest assured that we can’t wait to see you again in person!
