They’ve been with you since birth, watched you grow up and been there for you for all your firsts. Who knows you better than your best buds? Your TASTE BUDS! It’s time to show them some love and take them on a Texas Hill Country adventure that’s all about them! Where better to go than the Hub of the Texas Hill Country – Boerne!
Breakfast for the Buds
After a good night’s rest and a fresh morning brushing, head downtown with your buds for a tasty bakery treat and a piping hot cup of coffee at The Dienger Trading Co. or Bear Moon Bakery! Both are known across the region for their fresh-out-of-the-oven breakfast pastries. You can’t go wrong with sticky cinnamon rolls the size of your face in either location. Bear Moon offers up their famous “Piggies” (aka Pigs in a Blanket) at the counter as well as on their breakfast buffet. The Dienger’s scones and muffins are both something to write home about too!
Are your little tasties looking for something a bit more savory this morning? Hit up either Mary’s Tacos or Boerne Taco House for a vast assortment of breakfast taco choices. We are in TEXAS after all! Both are local taco hot spots, so anyone visiting from out of town will surely not be disappointed.
Lunch for the Buds
Once you’ve had a chance to spend your morning energy exploring town, your buds will be salivating and telling you that it’s time for more Boerne eats! Get “crafty” with in-house, crafted beer from either the Dodging Duck Brewhaus or Cibolo Creek Brewing Co. Pair your spirit with German sausage or a fresh-baked pretzel from the Dodging Duck, or a classic all-American burger from the Cibolo Creek Brewing Co. If you’re taste buds are into something a little less hearty, Bumdoodlers is a sandwich joint the locals all love, serving up fresh meats and veggies in every bite and your choice of homemade pie for dessert!
Dinner for the Buds
By the time dinner rolls (pun intended) around, it’s time to get fancy with your buds! You will feel no guilt at any one of the fine-dining restaurants here in Boerne. Set inside the historic Ye Kendall Inn, dive into your favorite comfort foods like fried green tomatoes, mashed potatoes, roasted chicken or prime steaks at Peggy’s On The Green. Try the freshest farm-to-table ingredients at Valeria Ristorante Italiano in dishes like lasagna or spaghetti and meatballs. Relax in the bright, exquisitely decorated dining room at The Creek Restaurant and order delectable selections like seafood, veal, pastas, crème brulee, and gelato. Cypress Grille’s menu offers choices like grilled pork chops, blackened sea scallops, pan-seared foie gras as well as mouth-watering desserts and an extensive wine list.
Brunch with the Buds
If your schedule calls for it, take your tasters to brunch on a lazy Sunday. Take a trip to Little Gretel to let your taste buds try a Kolache Benedict topped with Hollandaise sauce and either a “wurst” of your choice or jalapeños. Get daring at 259 Brantley’s Bistro with piquant meats like wild boar, lamb and quail. Your buds will thank you!
Shopping for the Buds
Everyone needs a souvenir, right? Look around at Boerne Epicure Gourmet Market to find dips, jams, jellies, and handmade goods to enjoy at home. “Put a taste of Texas on your table” when your buds go shopping at Texas Gourmet Pantry. Find Texas-made rubs, spreads, cobbler, honey and more from all over the state! Never mistake the taste or the bright green label of Fickle Pickles at Carousel Antiques. Get a free pickle sample when you visit! Stop by Kiss the Cook too, and take home kitchenware, cookware, gadgets and accessories for your kitchen.
Touring with the Buds
If you can’t get settled on one Boerne restaurant, we understand. After all, there are so many great places to choose from! Opt to take your buds on the Hill Country Food Tour where you won’t walk more than 2 blocks before tasting something Boerne-made, and totally delicious. If your tasties get thirsty, check out one of the local wine or brew tours to satiate that thirst and learn a little about what goes into making the spirits of the Hill Country so unique!
No matter which direction you choose to take your best buds, you are sure to get that Boerne Hill Country experience that so many keep coming back for!
