Most of us are aware of the things that really make Sisterdale great and how perfect it is for day tripping from Boerne. Gorgeous winding roads so blatantly boast the best scenery that the Hill Country has to offer; lazy weekend floats on the picturesque Guadalupe River; those dreamy, neon sunsets; and of course the growing list of “Sisterdale must do’s” such as Sister Creek Vineyards, Rock Harbor Hill Country Lodge, Sisterdale Line, and Blackboard Bar B Q. Fortunately for us, we can now add one more remarkable establishment to that list…Saint Tryphon Farm & Vineyards.
Saint Tryphon is the fruit of a unique vision and years of hard work on behalf of Silouan and Mary Elizabeth Bradford (and judging from their Instagram feed, their ten-year-old daughter Anna as well). Sil and Mary Elizabeth first began dreaming about Saint Tryphon nearly a decade ago, purchased the property on which it now sits in 2013, and bottled their first wine (made entirely of Texas grapes) in 2017. They dreamed of proving wrong the naysayers who insisted that it was impossible to craft true, natural wine in Texas….believing instead that it was entirely possible to “farm cleanly, promote life in the vineyard, and allow Mother Nature to guide your hand in the cellar”.
The end result: Mourvédre, Tempranillo, and Blanc du Bois (and soon Aglianico, Tannat, and Rosé de Mourvédre) that shows it can be done, and done well.
But don’t take my word for it, make the short drive out to Sisterdale and taste for yourself. You’ll find navigation easy with your GPS, plentiful parking, clear signage pointing you towards the tasting room, and true Hill Country modern-rustic design throughout.
Bring your friends because there’s plenty of seating inside, outside underneath the string lights on the covered patio, and tucked beneath the oaks on the pristine grounds. Be sure to take a little peek behind the tasting room to catch a glimpse of the two wild mustangs that Mary Elizabeth has trained herself and watch those vines, because soon we should be seeing the first of Saint Tryphon’s very own grape harvest!
You can find Saint Tryphon at 24 Wasp Creek Road, Boerne, TX 78006 and the tasting room is now open 7 days a week. Reservations are not required but are encouraged and can be made by phone at 830-777-6704 or online. Silouan and Mary Elizabeth will be waiting to welcome you with their warm smiles and plenty of delightful conversation, as you “come taste Texas!”.
