[ARCHIVED] W. Theissen bridge at Frederick Creek to close for emergency repairs

Road Closed sign at Theissen bridge

The City of Boerne Engineering and Mobility Department, after consulting with our public safety teams and traffic and safety committee, closed the W. Theissen Street bridge over Frederick Creek due to unsafe driving conditions on Monday, Dec. 11 until further notice.

The closure will allow for the necessary emergency repairs.

While the water levels were lowered during an unrelated project along the Cibolo Creek, City crews began conducting more rigorous inspections of culverts and drainage inlets along the creeks that are usually covered by water. During one inspection, crews found an area of extensive erosion in the culvert caused by decades of exposure to the elements. (pictured below)

The City is working with a local contractor and anticipates repairs will begin in the coming weeks. It is expected the $90,000 project will take approximately 4-6 weeks to complete once construction begins.

During this time, barricades will be placed on both sides of the bridge to prevent access to the construction site.

For drivers, the nearby businesses and homes can be reached by utilizing Main Street and W. Hosack Street to access W. Theissen Street. Pedestrian access to the nearby Cibolo Trail will remain open.
