Nathan Crane promoted to Planning Director

Nathan Crane, City of Boerne Planning Director

The City of Boerne is pleased to announce that Interim Director of Planning Nathan Crane has been promoted to Director of Planning.

Crane joined the City in November 2022 as the Assistant Director of Planning.

“We are excited to have Nathan’s mission-driven, strategic performance management, and people leadership as part of our executive team,” City Manager Ben Thatcher said. “This appointment reflects not only the dedication and municipal latitude he brings but the City’s collective commitment to ensuring the continued success and progress of the development process.”

With nearly 30 years of planning experience, Crane brings a strong background to the City and our residents. He came to Boerne after serving as City Administrator and Community Development Director in Highland City, Utah, for 12 years, navigating both the role of leading the City and coordinating all aspects of community development. His career has included working for a private planning consultant in Utah and holding advanced municipal planning positions in other communities.

“This has been a whirlwind year and I am excited to lead a talented and public service-driven team,” Crane said. “We are committed to thoughtfully and strategically working with residents and the development community to maintain our unique and vibrant Hill Country community."

Nathan has a Bachelor of Science in Planning and Resource Management from Brigham Young University and has held the American Institute of Certified Planner (AICP) designation since 2001. In his role, he will oversee the Planning Department and the Permitting and Code Compliance Office. Nathan and his family, along with their dog Hobbes, make their home in Boerne.
