Earlier this week the Cow Creek Groundwater Conservation District moved to Stage 4 drought restrictions. This will impact us at Boerne Utilities and requires us to reduce how much water we utilize from CCGWD.
Currently, Boerne residents remain in Stage 1 Water Restrictions!
Compliance of these drought measures is mandatory for all water customers.
These rules are in place because during the summer months, residents use up to triple the amount of water they do in wintertime. All this extra water is simply being used to try to keep grass green in the middle of summer when the temperature is reaching 100 degrees. This puts stress not only on our natural resources, but also the utilities systems. Grass will survive if you adhere to once-a-week watering.
Failure to follow these limitations now could require Boerne Utilities to further increase restrictions, such as reducing watering times or only allowing watering of yards every other week.
Under our current ordinances, the City can issue citations for water violators – with fines up to $1,000 per violation.
Stage 1 Water Restrictions
Under Stage 1 – you can only water one day a week from midnight to 11 a.m. and from 7 p.m. to midnight – and it is assigned according to the last number of your street address.
So, if your address ends in:
- 0 or 1 you can water on Monday
- 2 or 3 you can water on Tuesday
- 4 or 5 you can water on Wednesday
- 6 or 7 you can water on Thursday
- 8 or 9 you can water on Friday
Most importantly, there is no weekend watering. We are all responsible and have a role in helping promote better stewardship of water resources so Boerne can continue to be resilient during droughts or other water-supply challenges.
