Hounds for Hounds: Boerne baseball delivers supplies to ACS

The Boerne High School Greyhounds baseball team filed into the Animal Care Services parking lot on a recent Monday afternoon to drop off much-needed supplies for the animals at the shelter.

Head coach Bill Merrell said this is the second year for the team’s Hounds for Hounds donation collection drive.

“It can be hard to do projects like this during the season,” Merrell said. “But this is one that we are happy to do to support the shelter.”

The team has been collecting dog and cat food and treats at its home games with plenty of support from fans. This year’s drive gathered a total of eight bags of dry cat and dog food, one case of canned dog food, three bags of treats, and five dog toys.

“Donations like this go a long way in helping us care for the record number of animals we continue to receive at the shelter,” ACS Supervisor Stefanie Fisher said. “We are grateful for the support of the players, coaches, and fans of the Greyhounds.”

Coach Merrell is set to retire this year and hopes the team continues the Hounds for Hounds drive in the future.
