The City of Boerne Utilities has notified the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) of an errant discharge of wastewater occurring on Friday, April 14, 2023.
Boerne Utilities was notified around 10:45 a.m. of a manhole overflow due to a clogged pipe in the Southglen neighborhood on the City’s southeast side. The manhole is located behind homes along Wickersham Street near a Boerne Utilities lift station.
Crews cleared the blockage by 11:30 a.m. and the system returned to normal activity at that time. Cleanup and decontamination continued in the area until 2 p.m. according to TCEQ standards and protocols. Boerne Utilities is still working to determine an estimate of the amount that was released.
The preliminary cause of the clog is believed to be a buildup of soaps and other natural discharge, as well as grease from cooking that had been poured down drains.
As always, Boerne Utilities reminds customers not to pour grease, fats, or other oils down the drain.
The last time Boerne Utilities notified TCEQ of a wastewater discharge was in 2019.
