Drug Bust: Boerne PD K-9 sniffs out 100 pounds of marijuana

It was just another dog day at the office for Boerne Police Department K-9 Emma until a call came in to assist another agency. Emma and her handler, Cpl. Brandon Goudreau, ended up helping uncover 100 pounds of marijuana during a traffic stop March 3.

The K-9 unit was called out Thursday night to help the San Antonio Police Department search an RV suspected of smuggling drugs. Cpl. Goudreau led Emma on a search of the RV, which resulted in a positive alert for drugs from Emma.

“We are so proud of the hard work of Cpl. Goudreau and Emma,” Police Chief Steve Perez said. “Their dedication to their work and training helps keep our community safer and allows us to assist our neighboring law enforcement agencies.”

Emma, a Belgian Malinois and German Shepherd mix, and Cpl. Goudreau are one of two K-9 units at Boerne PD. The other is K-9 Tucker, a Belgian Malinois, and her handler, Senior Officer Pedro Moncada.

The operation Thursday night was part of HIDTA, or High Intensity Drug Trafficking Areas, a federally funded grant program that funds and assists law enforcement agencies in high trafficking areas.
