City renames three departments responsible for development

Graphic Reads: Developing and Building in Boerne

Three departments at the City of Boerne that work with residents and contractors on development projects have been renamed as part of an effort to bring clarity to the development process at the City.

As of Dec. 16, 2022, the following departments have been renamed:

  • Planning and Community Development is now Planning.
  • Development Services is now Engineering and Mobility.
  • Code Enforcement is now Permitting and Code Compliance.

These three departments will now be collectively referred to as Development Services – a name that encompasses all departments involved in the planning, building, and engineering process.

“Whether you are a homeowner looking to remodel your house or a contractor working in the City, these changes are designed to simplify the permitting and development process for your project,” City Manager Ben Thatcher said. “Our updated webpages and planning coordinators will help to guide you through the process simply and expediently.”

A new webpage has also been launched to provide a comprehensive overview of building in Boerne, including projects by residential homeowners and commercial contractors.

The page includes a description of each department and its role in the process and links to key information. Anyone looking to complete a project in Boerne can submit a form with basic information. One of the City’s planning coordinators will review the information and contact you to set up a pre-development meeting to provide a roadmap for your project. Lastly, a link will take you straight to the City’s online permitting platform. Here you can request permits and track your project’s progress.

While the names of the three departments have changed, the duties conducted by staff members remain the same.
