The Boerne Police Department promoted 11 officers at a ceremony on Thursday, July 7, 2022, led by Chief Steve Perez.

Perez introduced each officer and read a list of accomplishments and recognitions they have received during their service in the department. This was the largest promotion ceremony in the history of the department.

“It is an honor to oversee the promotion of these officers and to work alongside them every day,” Chief Perez said. “Each of these men and women have demonstrated a commitment to our community and to their profession. We are grateful for the support of the Boerne community.”

The ceremony included the promotion of four corporals, four sergeants, and three lieutenants. Friends and family members of the officers were in attendance, along with city staff and administration.

Lieutenant Promotions

Lt. Greg Irvin

  • Joined Boerne PD in August 1999
  • Has been a sergeant since 2010
  • Previously worked for the Kendall County Sheriff’s Office and Fair Oaks PD
  • 3 Life Saving Awards
  • 5 Fit for Duty Awards
  • Served on first ERT team
  • First community bike officer

Lt. Chris Walk

  • Joined Boerne PD in October 2012
  • Promoted to Detective in 2014
  • Became a School Resource Officer in 2018
  • Promoted to Patrol Sergeant in 2019
  • Promoted to Dispatch Sergeant in 2022

Lt. James Schmidt

  • Joined Boerne PD in December 2015
  • Promoted to Sergeant in 2021
  • Awarded Medal of Valor in 2020
  • 2 Life Saving Awards
  • Officer of the Year in 2019
  • Crisis Negotiations Team Leader since 2019
  • Instructor in 6 disciplines: taser, spikes, traffic incident management, defensive tactics, basic TCOLE, de-escalation
  • Advanced Peace Officers License
