Boerne police officers recognized at annual awards ceremony

Recently, several members of the Boerne Police Department and 911 Telecommunications Team were recognized for their work in 2021.

On March 30, members of both teams met in the police training room to help congratulate their colleagues.

Listed alphabetically, the ceremony included naming the Dispatcher of the Year, Fit For Duty (male and female), Officer of the Year, Lifesaving Award, Top Gun, and Valor Award.

“Our officers work every day to continue to improve their skills and to provide the quality service the community of Boerne expects and deserves, and I am excited to recognize their hard work,” Police Chief Steve Perez said.

Police Department Awards for 2021

Boerne PD dispatcher Chris Yeagley receives award

Chris Yeagley - Dispatcher of the Year

Yeagley began his career with Boerne PD dispatch team in 2018 and has earned additional certification in 2020. In 2021, he also expanded his role by becoming a trainer and help coach new dispatchers.

Boerne PD Office Ryan Cook receives award

Officer Ryan Cook - Fit For Duty

Cook began her career with Boerne PD in our Records Division in 2015. After successfully completing her training at the academy, she became a probationary officer in 2020.

Boerne PD Lt. Mitchell Scoggins receives award

Lt. Mitch Scoggins - Fit For Duty

Scoggins began his career with Boerne PD in 2009 and was promoted to lieutenant in 2018. In 2021, he became the fourth officer from the department to graduate from the FBI National Academy.

Boerne PD Officer Ramona Ramirez receives award

Officer Ramona Ramirez - Officer of the Year

Ramirez began her career with Boerne PD in 2020 after spending three years as a jailer at the Bexar County Jail and acquiring her peace license. In 2021, Ramirez embraced new opportunities within the department and helped lead our Police Explorer Program, which introduces young adults to the nature and complexity of law enforcement.

Both parents and students commended Ramirez for her ability to help those participating develop individual character, build leadership skills, and gain an appreciation for community service to help prepare them for a career in law enforcement.

Boerne PD Officer Andrew Brzozwski receives award

Officer Andrew Brzozwski - Lifesaving Award

Brzozwski began his career with Boerne PD in 2019. On September 27, Brzozwski was called to a home where a woman had overdosed. He quickly realized the woman was non-responsive and did not have a pulse.

He performed lifesaving measures and was able to help revive the woman before she was transported to the hospital. While she ultimately succumbed to her addiction two days later, Brzozwski’s actions allowed her family time to get their final goodbyes.

Officer James Estrada - Top Gun Award

Estrada began his career with the Boerne PD in 2018. The Top Gun Award is determined every year by the officer who completes the competition with the highest score, which encompasses a predetermined course of fire, and includes time and accuracy.

Boerne PD Cpl. Brandon Goudreau receives award

Cpl. Brandon Goudreau - Valor Award

Goudreau began his career with Boerne PD in 2017. On the night of July 22, 2021, Goudreau and another officer responded to a shooting, where an individual had opened fire and struck a room in a home where children were sleeping. Upon arriving at the scene, the officers saw the man behind some tall bushes and was failing to comply with orders.

The subject then retrieved his weapon from the ground and pointed it at the officers. Goudreau’s quick thinking helped police regain control of the situation and prevent himself, officers, and neighbors from being injured.
