Citizen Commendation: Man honored for rescuing driver from Cibolo Creek

Cord Johnson shakes hands with Mayor Tim Handren

A Hill Country resident has been recognized with a Citizen Commendation for heroic and life-saving actions taken when he pulled a driver from a vehicle that crashed into Cibolo Creek Nov. 22.

The driver of the car lost consciousness during a medical episode while driving on River Road, left the roadway, hit a rock, and crashed into the creek.

Cord Johnson, who was at The Dodging Duck restaurant across the street from where the car entered the water, saw what happened and ran across River Road and into the creek. Johnson pulled the driver from his car and helped him out of the water. The driver is thankfully in good condition after the incident.

Boerne Mayor Tim Handren presented Johnson with the Citizen Commendation Friday, Dec. 3 at The Dodging Duck. It is the first such honor Mayor Handren has awarded during his three years in office.

The City of Boerne is proud to count Johnson among those who live, work, and visit our area and is thankful his quick thinking and selfless actions.
