Editor’s Note: The following press release is from Baptist Health System and reposted here by the City of Boerne with permission.

Baptist Health System has purchased land in Boerne with plans to build a hospital campus that will include an acute care hospital with outpatient services, imaging and other diagnostic services and a medical office building for physician practices and other ancillary healthcare services. The property consists of 23 acres located at the Northwest corner of Interstate 10 and State Highway 46.

“We are very excited about expanding the services we offer to the Boerne community, said Matt Stone, Baptist Health System group CEO. “The services provided will mean Boerne and surrounding residents will reduce the need to travel outside the community for care.”

The approved and funded development will have a direct initial investment of over $50 million, not including construction of a medical office building that is part of future planning for the campus.

“We are excited to welcome Baptist Health System’s increased expansion to the Boerne community,” Boerne Mayor Tim Handren said. “Our residents have asked for additional medical facilities for years and we are excited to work with the hospital system as they embark on the process to make this much anticipated addition to our community.”

“We are working closely with Boerne city and county leaders on site planning so the campus serves the healthcare needs for the community,” said Brady Phillips, Group Chief Strategy Officer for Baptist Health System. “The public will be invited to provide input during public forums planned during development of the campus.”

Baptist is also working alongside area economic development leaders to ensure the project meets the needs of the community.

“The Boerne Kendall County Economic Development Corporation is pleased to continue to work with the Baptist Health System team to bring Boerne its first hospital,” said Amy Story, President & CEO of the Boerne Kendall County Economic Development Corporation. “This project represents a significant addition to the quality of life for the residents of the Kendall County.”

Currently Baptist Health System serves the Boerne community with its affiliated surgery center, the Surgery Center of Boerne, located at 112 Herff Road. The BHS Physicians Network operates primary care and specialty clinics in Boerne.

The hospital is projected to be completed with an opening date in late 2023 to early 2024. This is another testament to Baptist Health System’s commitment to expanding access to high quality care, building upon the system’s recent announcements to build a healthcare campus in Westover Hills, a suburb of San Antonio, as well investments in its six acute care hospitals across San Antonio and New Braunfels.
