In a quiet corner of Boerne, cars pass with little sign of the hustle and bustle happening behind the scenes.
Inside the City of Boerne’s Animal Care Services building staff are busy tending to animals, answering calls, and reconnecting lost pets with their owners.
“We provide a safe, humane shelter for unwanted, stray, abused, and impounded animals,” Animal Care Services Supervisor Lorrie Hockey said. “But it is so much more than that, and we take pride in providing quality service to not only the animals, but also our residents.”
Staying true to its mission, Boerne Animal Care Services will change it hours when they are open to the public starting Monday, October 4, 2021.
With the new hours, all in-shelter services will be by appointment only on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays. This includes returns to owners, city licensing, animal adoption, and surrenders. The shelter will be closed to the public on Sundays and Wednesdays, but owners will still be able to schedule an appointment to be reunited with their animals on Wednesdays. Crews will continue to respond to calls for service needing an Animal Control Officer as they are received.
“Many people don’t know, but we provide services to a large area,” Assistant City Manager Danny Zincke said. “The office receives thousands of calls and picks up hundreds of animals per year, and these new hours will allow them to best manage all the responsibilities their office handles.”
The City appreciates everyone’s understanding as we remain as committed as ever to helping the pets and people in our community.
