[ARCHIVED] City crews kept busy by recent storms, heavy rain

fire department crew removes tree from river road dam

There’s no question the 14 inches of rain Boerne received in the month of May and early June was a welcome sight, but the water left behind a mess for city crews.

Electric crews from the Utilities department spent the better part of Memorial Day weekend responding to outages as employees removed trees and branches from powerlines after severe storms rolled through the evening of Friday, May 28.

Street sweepers from the Streets department took to the roads after heavy rain washed gravel and stone onto roads around town. The work continued once the water receded with multiple rounds of debris clean up in low water crossings.

Once the rain stopped long enough, the Parks and Recreation department spent weeks mowing back tall grass and clearing city property of downed limbs and debris.

The Fire Department teamed up with Parks and Recreation on Thursday, June 17 to remove a 25-foot section of a tree that became lodged in the dam at River Road Park.

The City commends the crews from all of our departments that helped to keep Boerne beautiful after all the rain and severe storms we’ve seen in recent weeks.

The City also reminds private property owners they are responsible for keeping their rights of way, creek frontage and sidewalks clear of debris.
