Boerne PD unveils new K-9 training facility

Officer Brandon Goudreau with K-9 Emma

The Boerne Police Department held a ribbon-cutting ceremony at its brand-new K-9 training facility over the weekend.

The facility features a kennel space, a K-9 washing station and a large fenced-in training area where officers and their K-9s can learn the tools of the trade.

“The ultimate goal is to build this area up so we can hold regional training and competitions, and be a landmark training site for the region,” Lt. Mitchell Scoggins said. “Having a facility that will allow officers to learn the skills to apply in the field is priceless.”

The Boerne Police Department has two K-9 units – K-9 Tucker and her handler, Senior Officer Pedro Moncada, and K-9 Emma and her handler, Officer Brandon Goudreau. Both units were on hand at the ribbon-cutting event to demonstrate the types of training that can be done at the new facility.

The Boerne Police Department has made the facility available to law enforcement agencies throughout the area for their K-9 training needs. The Kendall County Sheriff's Office and the Gillespie County Sheriff's Office have already used it for training.

The facility is the result of an Eagle Scout project by two Boerne students, Samuel Adams and Ian Siemens. The pair started the project in the spring of 2020 and helped in the planning, fundraising and construction phases.

Lt. Scoggins, a fellow Eagle Scout, worked with Adams and Siemens as the department’s liaison for the project. Scoggins said there are two other scout projects in the works with the police department.
