The Boerne Police Department interacted with members of the community Thursday morning during its Coffee With a Cop event downtown.
The event, held at Black Rifle Coffee Company, aims to bridge the gap between officers and the public. The police department held two of these events in the months before the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. Thursday’s gathering was the first since pandemic began.
“The goal is to get out in the community, meet people and let them get to know officers,” Captain Steve Perez said.
It was a packed house with more than a dozen officers on hand to meet with Boerne residents, including one young girl who spoke with officers about her dream of joining the police department.
“The Boerne community is very supportive of the police department,” Officer Rebecca Foley said. “People are always saying they love us and are praying for us.”
Coffee With a Cop is a nation-wide initiative with hundreds of police departments participating each year. The mission is to improve trust and build relationships – one cup of coffee at a time.
The Boerne Police Department plans to host more Coffee With a Cop events later this year.
