The City of Boerne will remain in Stage 2 water conservation despite recent heavy rainfall to conserve water ahead of the summer months.
The recent much-needed rainfall has improved water levels, but Boerne Lake – one of three primary water sources for Boerne residents – is still down almost two feet at 39 feet 5 inch as of earlier this month. In May 2020, our area picked up several inches of rain; however, in the preceding three months the National Weather Service observation site at Boerne Stage Road tallied just three inches.
We are encouraging residents to be mindful of their water use and adjust automated sprinkler systems accordingly.
“While we have seen an abundance of rain lately, water levels are still below normal and it is important to conserve as much as possible in the event we find ourselves lacking water in the summer months,” said Jeff Thompson, deputy city manager and general manager of utilities.
As a reminder, under Stage 2 water restrictions Boerne Water Utility residential and commercial customers are required to limit the use of water for landscape irrigation. Customers are permitted to use individual sprinklers or sprinkler systems for lawns, gardens or other landscaped areas on one designated weekday and only between the hours of 7 p.m. and 11 a.m. Hand watering with a garden hose or bucket is allowed anytime.
