The Boerne Police Department once again participated in the Drug Enforcement Agency's National Drug Take Back event and saw a noticeable increase in medications collected over previous years.
Lt. Cody Lackey and Officer Rebecca Foley coordinated and ran this year’s event and estimated more than 20 people dropped up unused or unwanted prescription medications.
Several people said they were also disposing of medicines on behalf of their neighbors.
In total, the four-hour event collected 77 pounds of prescription medications.
Once the event was completed, Foley took the medications to a dedicated drop-off location in San Antonio for proper disposal.
The National Prescription Drug Take Back Day aims to provide a safe, convenient, and responsible means of disposing of prescription drugs, while also educating the general public about the potential for abuse of medications.
If you have medications that need to be disposed, they can be dropped off year-round at the Walgreens at 1223 S. Main Street in Boerne.
