As crews continue to make progress on the access road and new overpasses on Interstate 10, the upcoming demolition of the old Business Highway 87/Main Street overpass will require all main lanes of the interstate to be closed.
The expected closure was postponed due to weather. It will now begin Friday, May 14 at 9 p.m. and expected to be completed by May 17 at 5 a.m.
Drivers headed westbound on I-10 (toward Kerrville) will have to exit at Main Street and stay on the access road and re-enter before Highway 46. To allow traffic to remain on the access road, TxDOT will temporarily open direct access through the Main Street intersection. This will allow traffic to remain on the access road and not crowd Boerne roads.
For drivers headed eastbound (toward San Antonio) they will have to exit at a temporary exit ramp just past Highway 46. This will allow traffic to avoid the intersection of Highway 46/Bandera Road. Traffic will not be able to re-enter I-10 until they reach the on-ramp past Scenic Loop Road.
To allow for a continuous flow of traffic the new Main Street bridge will be closed, and no cross traffic will be allowed at the Scenic Loop intersection. Drivers on Scenic Loop Road will be forced to turn right onto the access road and turn around if they need to get across the interstate.
TxDOT understands this is a significant inconvenience for residents and drivers, and crews will work as quickly as possible to get the interstate reopened.
