Where do you fall in the great Texas Chili debate? Beans or no beans? Regardless of your stance, there’s no beans about it, these 4 bowls of chili will have you warmed to the core and asking for more during these chilly winter months. There’s a little something for every palate in this list: a white chili, one that claims to be the “best ever”, one with Tex-Mex flare, and one that adds a little booze to kick up the flavor. And yes, there are some with and some without the questionable legumes.
The Bevy Provisions Company offers up a gluten-free white pork chili featuring flavors from Bevy honey, jalapeno, tomatillo, yellow and orange bell peppers, white beans, fresh lime, corn, and cilantro. It’s a fresh twist on this winter-time favorite that you’re sure to order again and again!
Cibolo Creek Brewing Co.’s selection includes locally sourced ground pork made into what they claim to be the “best ever” chili, topped with cheddar, sour cream, and green onion. Order up a piping hot bowl of this bean-free chili to see if you agree.
Compadres Hill Country Cocina adds a Mexican twist with their Smoked Beef Fajita Chili. It’s loaded with flavor and topped with cheese, sour cream, and cilantro. Yum! Take note that this fan-favorite isn’t always on the menu, so if you have a hankering for a bowl of the good stuff (Chef Mark is adamant: NO BEANS!) it’s worth a call before you head over!
Dodging Duck Brewhaus, believe it or not, puts their rotating dark beers in their chili and serves it with chips and of course cheese! This is another local chili that is sans beans. It’s a perfect addition to any entre as a side, but it’s hearty enough to fill you up as a meal all by itself. By the cup or by the bowl, you’re going to walk away satisfied.
