Welcome to the new year, my friends. I don’t know about you, but I am excited for 2024 and the great things that lie ahead. The River Road Park Bank Stabilization Project is coming along nicely and the boardwalk will be a great addition, and I look forward to its opening. Several of the bond projects will break ground later this year and I'm excited to see how this investment in our own community will only continue to allow Boerne to be a place where we can live, work, and play together.

While I'm excited for these great improvements and additions, there is a tradition of yesteryear I would also like to see comeback. If you or someone you know has any interest in helping organize and bring back Berges Fest, please email me. Simply let me know how you would like to serve to bring back this great Boerne tradition.

The new year also brought in a season of change for our partners at Boerne ISD. Please help us in welcoming Superintendent Dr. Kristin Craft to the Texas Hill Country. As a parent with a child in BISD schools, her success means our teachers and students are successful, and that is what we all want.

I invite us all to look at our community and ask these questions:

  • Where can I serve?
  • Where can I make a difference?
  • Where can I be of help?
  • Where can I make an impact for the betterment of our community?

After you ask those questions listen for the answers and maybe be ready to jump in. Last year, I jumped in and did it in a big way. Being completely frank, I felt way over my head at first, but getting involved has been one of the best decisions I have ever made. So many people have been by my side, answering my questions, and helping me serve our residents the best I can. Eight months later, I'm not treading water anymore and my heart is still the same. I love Boerne, the community, the people, the way of life, and what makes Boerne so special. That is my "why." Being a part of something as special as a community like Boerne is a blessing, so what are you going to do with that blessing? What is your "why?"

This week, I was also able to proclaim it National Mentoring Month and meet some of the very people who asked "why" and found a place to serve. In a community full of giving back, there are many places our talents can be of benefit. See a list of local non-profits.

This leads me to my last topic of this blog. Hard to believe, but elections are right around the corner and the filing period is now open. There will be several elections in the county, the school board, and the city, all of which give us as residents a chance to get involved and be a part of our wonderful community. So don’t be afraid to ask yourself, what is your "why?"

In closing, I hope and pray that 2024 is a wonderful year for us all, and I hope to get the opportunity to be a blessing to you, and with you, as we serve this wonderful community together. Together we are better, together we are Boerne.

Faithfully His,

Mayor Frank
