Good day, my friends. I hope everyone had a wonderful week and is looking forward to an amazing Labor Day and the great Kendall County Fair and Rodeo. For me, this is one of the best things about living in Boerne and Kendall County. I believe it highlights not only the hard work of our own FFA and 4-H members, who have taken great pride and care in raising and showing livestock for this wonderful event, but it also brings us together as a community.

The KCFA takes great pride in this event and the weekend’s festivities, so I would encourage you to take some time and experience something wonderful in our own community this weekend and don’t forget to attend the parade on Saturday, as well. I look forward to seeing you out at the fairgrounds this weekend.

Recently, I had the privilege and honor to be part of the signing of the CWPP (Community Wildfire Protection Plan). Even though this project began well before I took office, I want to highlight it because it was truly a community effort by so many working together for the betterment of not only Boerne but the entire community that is Kendall County.  It speaks volumes of our ability to work together for the betterment and continued safety for our residents in Kendall County, Boerne, and Fair Oaks Ranch.

Lastly, what does this upcoming Labor Day weekend mean? A more official and formal answer would be, Labor Day celebrates and honors the contribution of everyday people to the prosperity and economic strength of the nation. The Monday of Labor Day along with the Saturday and Sunday preceding it is known as the Labor Day Weekend and is traditionally considered the end of summer.

But my question more precisely is, what does Labor Day mean to you? For many this is just a great three-day weekend or a day off from work, but I wonder about this idea of laboring in general. What are we laboring (working) for? My mantra and favorite scripture are Colossians 3:23, “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for man.”

When I look at the things I labor at in my life, I believe they should have purpose and value. How do I work towards being a good husband, friend, father, neighbor, pastor, mayor, business owner? It is my honest belief that my work/labor should always be for the betterment of those receiving the benefit of my labor and not my own reward. This is not an easy task by no means, and I fail at times for sure. But I believe that as individuals and as a community if we are willing to labor together than wonderful and amazing things happen in our wonderful community.

I hope everyone labors in love and care for each other, together we are better, together we are Boerne. Have a wonderful Labor Day weekend and I look forward to seeing you at the great Kendall County Fair.

May others see Christ in us today!

Faithfully His,

Mayor Frank
