The Boerne Police Department provides a number of opportunities for our officers to receive training in police-related topics. The department attempts to ensure that each officer, if desired, is certified in:
- ASP Baton
- O.C. Spray
- RADAR/LIDAR
- Standardized Field Sobriety Training (SFST)
- ALERRT
- Mental Health
- Taser
- Less Lethal
- AED
- Spikes
- Patrol Rifle (AR-15)
- Handgun ( Glock 17, .9MM)
Additionally, our officers receive training in cultural diversity, special investigative topics, and the required courses for intermediate certification.
Training Sources
Our officers receive training in a number of areas from a variety of sources. Some of these courses are taught by Boerne Police Department instructors and may be available to regional officers. The Boerne Police Department is fortunate to have a training room large enough to accommodate 40 students. Our class room is equipped with multiple televisions and a HD projector with stadium type seating. Anyone interested in putting on training in the Texas Hill Country is encouraged to contact Assistant Chief Cody Lackey.
Field Training Program (FTO)
Probationary officers are assigned to a series of field training instructors who guide them through a new hire training program that can last up to 16 weeks. During this time, new officers are evaluated daily on their ability to work as officers.
