Foster Pet Program

About the Program

Boerne Animal Care Services is looking for foster homes to help care for and raise dogs, puppies, cats, and kittens in a loving environment. Learn more about the foster pet program below and complete the associated applications if you are interested in becoming a pet foster home.

  • The City of Boerne allows residents to have up to four pets plus one litter of animals at a single residence. The litter must be under eight weeks of age.
  • Boerne ACS retains ownership of all animals in the foster program and makes all decisions regarding the animals.

Fostering Puppies and Kittens

Newborn puppies and kittens cannot live in the animal shelter as they are at an increased risk for contracting illnesses. Foster homes for these pets care for the puppies or kittens until they are old enough to be placed for adoption in the shelter at five to six weeks old. That is when they can receive their first set of vaccines.

  • Prior experience caring for newborn animals is preferred, but not a requirement.
  • If you already have pets, it is advised that you keep the puppies or kittens separate from your current pets for a minimum of 10 days as a medical precaution.

Fostering Dogs and Cats

Boerne ACS also has need of foster homes for adult dogs and cats as they await adoption from the shelter. Foster homes are responsible for housing, feeding, and caring for these pets.
