Girl with Grit: Skill Building Workshops

Details

Camp Girl with Grit teaches basic life skills that are needed for independent living. Each session teaches essentials such as changing a flat tire, road safety, engine maintenance, introduction to tools and hardware, and general home care and repair. Classes have been called potentially lifesaving and life changing by law enforcement and behavioral scientists.

The workshop is seven sessions held over a seven-week period in the spring and fall. Enrollees can sign up for all seven sessions (bundle) or pick individual sessions to attend.

  • Class Time: Fridays from 5 - 7 p.m. and/or Sundays from 1 - 3 p.m.

  • Class Fee: $200 for 8-Week (Bundle) Session or $35 for an individual session

Spring 2024 Sessions

The spring 2024 sessions meet on either a Friday or a Sunday from February 23 to April 26. There will be no classes on March 15 (Spring Break) or March 29 (Good Friday).

Fall 2024 Sessions

The fall 2024 sessions meet on Fridays from October 18 to December 13. There will be no class on November 29 (Thanksgiving Weekend).

Session Details and Dates

Week One | Trusty Tools

Girls will learn about tools and build their very own birdhouse. They will leave with a basic understanding of hand and power tools.

Week Two | Try-a-Trade

Girls will learn about various elements of construction. The goal of this class is to build a lamp and learn about the skilled trades in a fun, interactive way.

Week Three | Financial Fast Facts

Introduces students to the importance of budgeting their finances. We will discuss priority expenditures and the importance of saving your money. We will also cover the difference between utilizing cash and credit.

Week Four | Drive & Thrive

Girls will learn how to change a tire, jump a battery, roadside safety, and vehicle maintenance.

Week Five | Entrepreneur Lab

Create your own business and develop a business plan. Learn about budgets, money planning, and more!

Week Six | Household Fix DIY

Girls will learn basic household skills to help them achieve independence from hanging heavy curtains to patching a pair of jeans or a hole in the wall.

Week Seven | Wild One (CPR Training)

Focuses on survival in our most uninhabited areas – the wilderness. We share tips in case of emergencies, what to pack and how to prepare if you are out enjoying outdoor recreation.

Week Eight | First Response (CPR Training)

We will cover how to handle some very simple and some very scary emergencies. Extinguish a fire, learn CPR, and firearm safety.
