Call Before You Dig

Texas 811

Locate Utility Lines

Before you install that fence, sprinkler system, swimming pool, deck, or any other project that requires digging, remember to call before you dig.

The City of Boerne Utilities owns and operates electric, water, sewer, and natural gas distribution systems in and around the Boerne area. Texas law requires that any excavator, including homeowners, request our facilities be located prior to digging. The City subscribes to a statewide call before you dig service – Texas 811. This is a free service, available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Please be aware that you are required by law to make the call. All you have to do is dial 811.

For more information, visit the Texas 811 website.

What to Expect After Calling

After you make the call, Texas 811 will notify the City of Boerne and our crews will locate underground lines within two business days. The following shows the colors that are associated with each of the City of Boerne utilities:

  • White – Proposed Excavation
  • Pink – Temporary Survey Markings
  • Red – Electric Power Lines, Cables, Conduit, and Lighting Cables
  • Yellow – Gas, Oil, Steam, Petroleum, or Gaseous Materials
  • Orange – Communication, Alarm or Signal Lines, Cables, or Conduit
  • Blue – Potable Water
  • Purple – Reclaimed Water, Irrigation, and Surry Lines
  • Green – Sewers and Drain Lines

Once the utilities are marked, dig carefully and hand dig within 18 inches of all markings.
