"Outspoken" Program, Thurs., Aug. 13th @ 10 am

Thursday, August 13, 2020

The grandson of a slave, Olly Neal Jr. was born on July 13, 1941, on a farm eleven miles west of Marianna, Arkansas, in the rural New Hope community. After attended segregated schools, He started a community health clinic in Marianna (Lee County), became the first black district prosecuting attorney in Arkansas, and served as a circuit court judge and on the Arkansas Court of Appeals. Historian Grif Stockley described him as a civil rights activist, political agitator, Arkansas Delta advocate, and a “black devil incarnate to many of Marianna’s whites.” Join us on Zoom for this lively, frank discussion of Olly's life, as told by Boerne author Jan Wrede in this new biography. A link will be posted a few days prior to the event and sent via messenger to all who RSVP. Books are available for sale through the library and the Bookshop Under The Windmill.
