From 1988 to 2003, Mike Schultz was engaged in the financial services business ultimately creating Business Financial Group. He moved to Boerne from San Antonio in 1993 and served 5 years on the Boerne Independent School District Board with 2 terms as President and 2 years on The Texas Association of School Boards (TASB).
He has served on a number of YMCA committees and was President of the San Antonio YMCA encompassing all 13 branches in 1991-92. Additionally, he has served on many church committees and boards leading to 3 different master planning and building projects accounting for millions of dollars of construction.
Mr. Schultz is a co-founder of LeaderSteps, a program for seniors at Boerne ISD which is still in existence today and is a member of the Boerne Chamber Leadership Program, class of 2007-2008. He has served as a board member of the Christian Job Corp of Kendall County, as Chair Elect and Chairman of the Greater Boerne Chamber of Commerce board. Governor Rick Perry appointed him to the Guadalupe Blanco River Authority (GBRA) Board. He has co-chaired the Boerne Public Library capital campaign with former Mayor Patrick Heath.
Since 2007, Mike Schultz has been involved with the Trust Company as Senior Vice President/Director of Business Development, which involved successfully raising capital to open 2 new banks (San Antonio and Boerne). The loans and deposits of the Trust Company merged successfully in April of 2011 with The First National Bank of Sonora.
Mike Schultz was elected Mayor to the City of Boerne, Texas a Home Rule City as of May, 2011.
Responsibilities
The Boerne mayor is elected at large by Boerne residents and serves a two-year term with no term limits. The mayor is the presiding officer of the
City Council. The mayor is recognized as head of the city government for all ceremonial purposes and by the governor for purposes of military law. The mayor may debate and discuss any matters before the council but only votes in the event of a tie. When authorized by the council, the mayor signs all official documents. The mayor appoints, with the advice and consent of the council, the members of citizen advisory boards and commissions.
