If you are charged with a traffic offense, you may be eligible to take a driving safety course or motorcycle operators training course to dismiss the charge. The request must be made on or before the appearance date on your citation by submitting an Affidavit of Eligibility Form to the Municipal Court at:

If requesting defensive driving by mail, all forms, photocopies, and payment of costs must be submitted with the eligibility affidavit. Juveniles under the age of 17 must appear in open court with a parent or guardian.

Requirements
At the time of the request, you must do the following:

• Pay court costs of $107.10 for regular offenses or $132.10 for offenses occurring within a school zone
• Plead guilty or nolo contendere
• Present proof of financial responsibility (liability insurance) valid on the day of your request - must either be in your name or state in which you are a policy member
• Present your Texas driver's license valid the day of your request

Payment Methods
Accepted forms of payment by mail include money orders and checks. Cash, checks, and money orders are accepted in our office.

Process
Once you are approved, you will receive a confirmation letter and further instructions for completing your requirements. Please do not take a defensive driving course until you have been approved.

The case will be postponed for 90 days to allow you time to complete the course. You must attend a driving safety course approved by the Texas Education Agency or a motorcycle operators course approved by the Department of Public Safety.
