  1. Get Fit Boerne - Spacewalk Challenge Grades K-5

    April 1 - April 30 @ Patrick Heath Public Library Youth Department

    As part of our focus on fitness this month, we encourage children in Grades K through 5 to blast off to good health. Our summer theme this year will be outer space, and we are already on the launch pad, and hope you too will join us. Starting on April 1, students are invited to come to the Youth Department to pick up a Spacewalk Challenge log and pedometer. Every time the child walks 10,000 steps, he records the date in one of the planets on the log. When a planet is reached he or she can come to the library to get a sticker. Visit all the planets, and a special prize awaits! Supplies are limited, so be sure to come in early in the month of April to get your log and pedometer.

    We take flight this month as we hold our program at the Joshua Springs Park. The BOERNE AREA MODEL SOCIETY will be our hosts, providing flight demonstrations, simulator flight, buddy box flying, and penny plane crafting. We are deeply grateful to the Boerne Model Air Club for so generously sharing of their time and talents with us. IF IT RAINS: Come instead to our library, and we will transform our Youth Department into a virtual flight hanger. Hosted by BISD’s Joan Labay-Marquez and her Boerne Young Makers team, this STEM (science, technology, engineering, mathematics) event is for families of all ages. Thanks to Miss Joan and her team!

Don’t fret if you don’t have a copy by our first hike – this is an EASY book club. This is not going to be a grueling hike – we all have to get back to work after. I plan to keep walks close to downtown to make it easy for all to participate and get back to their desks. Hikes should be around 30 minutes. If you need to leave early, that’s fine too! This is a CASUAL book club – the main thing we are doing is walking together and having some discussion about the themes around a fun and popular book! Get ready for Get Fit!

  78. Get Fit Boerne - Walking Book Club

    We’ll be reading Wild, By Cheryl Strayed. Please grab a copy of the book beforehand, they are around $10 and Wal-Mart had copies. Don’t fret if you don’t have a copy by our first hike – this is an EASY book club. This is not going to be a grueling hike – we all have to get back to work after. I plan to keep walks close to downtown to make it easy for all to participate and get back to their desks. Hikes should be around 30 minutes. If you need to leave early, that’s fine too! This is a CASUAL book club – the main thing we are doing is walking together and having some discussion about the themes around a fun and popular book! Get ready for Get Fit!
