Pet of the Week

Bitsy

Bitsy is an adult Australian Shepherd. She is a very sweet girl with lots of spunk and a great attitude. Bitsy wouldn't mind a loving, energetic family with a nice yard and an endless supply of "Scooby Snacks". Come by and see her today!

Mission Statement

 The mission of the City of Boerne Animal Control Department is to provide safe, humane shelter for unwanted, stray, abused and impounded animals in accordance with state and city regulations in a cost efficient and effective manner; to balance the health, public safety, and welfare needs of people and animals; responsibly enforcing animal related laws; educating the public about responsible companion animal ownership; investigating cases where animal care is questionable; and finding new loving homes for homeless animals at our shelter.

Values

We are committed to the highest performance standards, ethical conduct, truthfulness, and moral behavior in our work with people and animals;
We take pride in our professional level of service and hold ourselves accountable for our actions;
We demonstrate the principles of respect, understanding, compassion, empathy, fairness and service in our role as Animal Control Officer for the City of Boerne;

Beliefs

We believe that we are a part of the humane solution, not the problem of animal overpopulation.
We know it is not possible to save all animals in our care due to animal overpopulation, and we understand that warehousing animals for the sake of saving them from humane euthanasia is not in the animals best interest;
We believe that education is central to addressing animal cruelty, neglect, and overpopulation;
We believe we make a difference in the lives of our community's animals.

The Volunteer Program Minimize

The Animal Shelter is always in need of help from citizens who have time to fill during the day.  The shelter staff can feed, clean and care for the animals.  But, what most of the facility residents really need is the one things the staff doesn't have enough of -- TIME.  The number of animals housed makes it nearly impossible for the staff to give each resident the time and attention needed and deserved.  That's where the volunteers come in!

There are volunteer schedules to fit almost anyone's timetable - even a program set up for children as young as 10 years old to serve as a volunteer!  Activities range from sitting in a kennel and cuddling a couple of pups, to taking long walks with an older dog or playing a fast game of fetch with an energetic, younger dog.  There is a job waiting for all those who volunteer at the shelter.

If you or your children would be interested in giving your time to a needy animal, please visit the staff at the shelter at 330 S Esser Road. They will be happy to work with you to fit your available time into our schedules.

DONATIONS

The City of Boerne provides funding for the staffing, maintenance and repair of the Animal Shelter facilities and equipment.  However, normal necessities such as treats, play toys, leashes, general care supplies and funding for veterinary care are always welcome from donations.

All donations are gladly accepted and greatly appreciated.  This appreciation is felt equally with the staff and the animals as they await adoption.

Donations may be made by contacting Maria Guerrero at 830-249-8645 ext. 1216.
