City Playgrounds Meet Inspection Standards

The playgrounds at Boerne city parks are safer than ever now that Robert Estes, a crew leader with the City’s parks and recreation department, is inspecting them. Robert recently became a “certified playground safety inspector” by taking a special course and passing a national exam offered by the National Parks and Recreation Association.  His job is to make sure that the city’s playgrounds meet current national standards set by the American Society for Testing and Materials and the U.S Consumer Product Safety Commission. Estes conducts quarterly inspections of the City’s playgrounds at City Park, Optimist Park, Northrup Park, City Lake Park, and Roeder Park. He inspects such things as the bolts, fittings, chains, swings, surfaces and fall zones. “My priority is to make sure the playgrounds are as safe as can be for the children using them,” said Estes.
