
Mayor Dan Heckler is a native of Buffalo, New York. He’s is a decorated Viet Nam War Veteran who retired from the United States Air Force in 1988 with the rank of Chief Master Sergeant (E-9). Following his retirement from the Air Force, Dan worked in the private sector for many years.
Dan and his wife, Lynn and her mother, Eleanor Duffany-McLeod, moved to Boerne from Germany in 1999 and settled into their 'retirement home' on the Cibolo Creek. Dan and Lynn immediately became active in the community. Dan is a member of the Boerne Noon-time Rotary Club, VFW Post 866, Kendall County Republican Club, the Cibolo Arts Council and the Kendall County Fair Association.
Dan still finds time to help others by driving cancer patients to San Antonio for treatment and doctor’s appointments for the American Cancer Society. Dan and his wife are volunteers with the Hill Country Daily Bread Ministries by delivering food and goods to needy area families. He is also a mentor for a student at Boerne Middle School North.
Dan served two terms on the Boerne City Council from 2003 to 2007. He was elected as the Mayor of Boerne in 2007 and re-elected in 2009. Mayor Heckler was elected to the Alamo Area Council of Governments (AACOG) Board of Directors in June 2008 and serves as Chairman of the Planning and Program Committee and is a member of the Community Affairs Committee.
Previously, Dan served on the Kendall County Appraisal District Board of Directors and the Boerne Community Theater Board of Governors. Dan is a founding board member of the Kendall County Economic Development Corporation. He also served on his church council for 3 years.
Mayor Heckler has an Associate's Degree in Nursing and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Occupational Education from Wayland Baptist University, Plainview, Texas. Mayor Heckler has one son, Steve, who lives in Murfreesboro, TN with his wife and 2 children. Dan’s hobbies include racquetball, playing bridge, reading, traveling and bicycling.
