Boerne Art Al Fresco

In 2015 the Art Al Fresco program kicked off the first season in 2015. Born from a grass roots effort which included participation from local artists, this annual program exhibits ten (10) temporary sculptures placed throughout the City so residents and visitors have the opportunity to view approximately fifty (50) unique sculptures over the 5 year program duration.  Art Al Fresco pieces are located along the Hill Country Mile, River Road and along the City’s trail system.
Ten items are chosen from a national "call for sculptures" based on recommendations from a council appointed  Public Art Committee. At the end of each year’s competition, the City has the option to purchase a minimum of one or more sculptures pieces for the permanent public art collection.
Throughout the duration of the exhibition, city residents and visitors have the opportunity to vote online for the piece they would like to see the City acquire for its permanent collection so the public is involved in the selection process. The sculpture receiving the greatest number of votes is recognized as “Boerne’s Choice”.
When the competition ends, votes are tallyed, and a staff Art Acquisition Committee reviews the pieces and costs before recommending specific pieces for purchase to the City Council.
